Managing Director, FP Analytics

Job description

Foreign Policy (FP), the premier news and analysis publication for international relations, is seeking an experienced, entrepreneurial, and strategic leader to lead our FP Analytics research group in our Washington D.C. office. FP Analytics is the independent research and advisory division of FP, comprised of an interdisciplinary team of policy analysts, and economists with deep subject-matter and regional expertise across a range of issues, sectors and geographies. We also maintain a global network of experts on the ground in key markets, allowing us to give real-time insights on changing political, economic ,and social issues around the world.

 

The Managing Director reports directly to the Publisher and leads strategy, operations, and revenue generating activities for our FP Analytics team. This leadership role will lead the research team in executing new research projects and brainstorm new projects with the FP strategic development team using her/his knowledge of the international policy landscape, and market trends.  The successful candidate will be a proven strategic leader and people manager, with a track record of success in the global affairs world, and with international business clients.

 

FP Analytics conducts bespoke research for corporations, NGOs, multilateral organizations and policy groups in both private and public formats. FP Analytics designs the research to answer client needs while maintaining complete editorial independence from both its clients and FP itself. The group uses quantitative and qualitative analysis, and is expert at aggregating and interpreting publicly available data. FP Analytics also runs a variety of simulations for clients, including the highly regarded PeaceGame simulation, which will take place this year in Washington, Paris and Abu Dhabi, as well as quarterly research reports – such as our recent Mining the Future analysis of Chinese resource control - published for Premium subscribers of FP.

 

Core responsibilities include:

  • Full ownership of FP Analytics projects, budgets, and success metrics
  • Forge and maintain strong client relationships leading to customer satisfaction and renewals
  • Create strategies and envision projects and products to develop and respond to new business development opportunities alongside the strategic development team
  • Prioritize, track, and close client engagements
  • Manage the FP Analytics Team and business processes to optimize team revenue, product growth, employee engagement and retention
  • Represent FP Analytics to leaders in the global policy and international business community
  • Present regularly to clients and prospects, as well as at industry events featuring FP Analytics research
  • Regular travel to grow FP Analytics globally

Requirements

  • Master's Degree or its international equivalent in one of the following: International Relations, Business Administration, Public Policy, or related field
  • A minimum of 10 years of highly relevant experience
  • Demonstrated success running a profitable business unit or vertical
  • Organizational and political agility with highly developed negotiation and interpersonal skills
