Deputy Editor

Job description

Foreign Policy (FP) is looking for a Deputy Editor to commission and edit smart, provocative arguments and analyses on international affairs and U.S. foreign policy. Candidates should be web-savvy and committed to FP’s mission—explaining the world to Washington and Washington to the world. They should bring a keen sense of professionalism, urgency, and dedication to the job. We want someone entrepreneurial and innovative. And we’re a collaborative team, so candidates need to work well with others. 

Responsibilities include

  • Commission and edit articles
  • Develop new editorial feature types
  • Top-edit
  • Write headlines
  • Help innovate and execute special projects


  • A minimum of 5 years of experience with web journalism, including commissioning and line-editing
  • Top-edit
  • Excellent headline-writing skills
  • A demonstrated interest in global affairs
