Job description

Foreign Policy (FP) is recruiting an early-career editor to join our Washington, D.C. office. Candidates should have some experience editing op-eds and argumentative essays, and a solid grasp of U.S. politics and international affairs. The role entails not only basic editing but also day-to-day editorial needs on the website, social media, print magazine, newsletters, and podcasts. Successful applicants will have at least two years of relevant magazine or media experience and show potential for growth. 

We’re a collaborative team, so candidates need to work well with others. Applicants should bring a keen sense of professionalism, urgency, and dedication to the job and be committed to FP’s mission: explaining the world to Americans, and Washington to the world.

Responsibilities include

  • First-edit articles
  • Help manage FP's homepage
  • Coordinate with editors on the production of FP's print magazine
  • Collaborate with the audience engagement editor on maintaining FP's social media presence, and with the newsletter editor, on a variety of e-mail products
  • Help craft headlines for digital stories


  • 1-4 years of relevant experience with web or print journalism
  • Knowledge of digital management systems for articles, newsletters, and social media
  • A demonstrated interest and understanding of global affairs and economics
